Jackson — The Jackson City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting electric-vehicle use and clean-energy awareness during its Dec. 30 meeting.
Councilman Parkinson framed the resolution as part of an urgent response to climate change and said EV adoption could provide local economic opportunities if service businesses locate in the city. "If we had more electrical vehicles in Jackson, then companies that service electric vehicles that are based here in the city can take their revenue and reinvest in the community," Parkinson said.
The chair, who said they themselves own an electric vehicle, voiced wholehearted support and encouraged residents to consider EVs. Council members discussed local sales-tax considerations and noted increasing local EV charging availability.
The resolution passed by voice vote; councilmembers indicated support without recorded opposition.
