Council approves $4.58M in claims; amends sanitation payments pending reimbursement

Jackson — The Jackson City Council approved municipal claims totaling $4,579,190.20 on Dec. 30, including two large payments to the city's solid-waste contractor and a roof repair for the 911 operations center.

CFO Jillian Caldwell listed the four largest claims: two $870,573 payments to Richard's Disposal Inc. for solid-waste collection (October and November 2025); a $308,738.45 transfer to the Metro Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau for December 2025; and $285,840.28 to Independent Roofing System Inc. for a 911 operations center roof replacement.

Councilman Parkinson moved an amendment to ensure specified sanitation-related invoices would be paid using available funds, with the intent to reimburse fund line 9 when revenue is received. Parkinson said the amendment was intended to prevent vendors from going unpaid while the city awaits funds from Jackson Water. The amendment passed 6-0.

After the amendment, the council voted on the claims as amended; the chair announced the tally as five in favor and one opposed. During discussion, CAO Peter Taylorsen said risk management would be consulted to see if insurance claims could recover the 911 roof cost and noted further interior repairs may be required once the roof is finished.

Other routine items approved at the meeting included payroll appropriations and a compensation range change for the senior auditor position. The council voiced support for city policing and safety investments while approving a ratification of payment to Active Solutions LLC for camera maintenance and installation.
