Public Works Director Lorenzo Anderson told the Jackson City Public Works Committee that the department has multiple vehicles and pieces of equipment in the procurement pipeline, but firm delivery dates depend on issuing purchase orders and vendor lead times.
"I can't give you an actual delivery date because until I get the POs to the actual vendors, I can't give a solid date," Deputy Director James Caldwell said, noting the vendors typically notify the city about four weeks before a customized vehicle arrives. Caldwell said the department expects skid steers back in roughly two weeks and that heavier items such as excavators and a roll‑off truck will follow the formal contracting and purchasing timeline.
Anderson and Caldwell said the city will handle final decals and markings in its own shop and is working with purchasing and risk management to resolve account or trailer issues that limit equipment mobility. Caldwell described limits in redundancy: when a single excavator or trailer is out of service, crew capacity and response times fall.
The committee praised the expedited approach but asked staff to provide more precise delivery dates once POs are completed. The chair asked administration to keep council members updated on schedule changes and on any ability to use incoming equipment for blight cleanup and code enforcement.
The committee did not take formal action on purchases during the meeting; Anderson said procurement timing depends on budget availability and fund balance constraints.
The committee is expected to receive more detailed procurement schedules and delivery estimates in a future meeting.
