Council urges tighter City Hall entry screening after staff report of unsecured access

The police chief told the committee the Jackson Police Department is ultimately responsible for city-building responses and recommended addressing detailed security measures in executive session to avoid publicly disclosing tactical steps.
Members noted past incidents where individuals circumvented security and said occasional officer presence at meetings and events could be advisable. Staff agreed to coordinate with JPD on emergency response expectations and to return with options for improving check-in procedures.
