The Finance and Personnel Commission unanimously approved a resolution authorizing an amendment to a hazardous-materials contract between the City of La Crosse Fire Department and Dairyland Power Cooperative.
A council member asked whether the contract provides financial remuneration and whether those payments increase annually. The presenting fire official said the amendment reimburses the department for actual expenses rather than a fixed contractual amount, and that the reimbursement can change year to year. The presenter explained La Crosse is a Type 2 regional HAZMAT asset for the State of Wisconsin and also participates in a radiological response team under a separate state contract; those roles inform the city’s ongoing presence and training at the site referenced in the contract.
When asked how many actual sites in Wisconsin the department might be asked to respond to, the presenter said there are two such sites; the department emphasized that transport incidents remain possible and would be responded to as needed.
A council member moved to approve the amendment, the motion was seconded and the vote carried unanimously. The contract amendment authorizes the city to accept reimbursement for response and training related to the Dairyland Power site under the terms described by the fire department.
