The Finance and Personnel Committee on Dec. 1 approved a series of labor agreements and memoranda of understanding covering fire department personnel and transit workers.
Resolutions approved included a lateral-transfer MOU with the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 127 (Resolution 20-5-1332), a vacation-conversion MOU to equalize vacation accrual and conversion between shift and day personnel (Resolution 20-5-1364), and a sick-leave/personal business days conversion MOU (Item 25-1366). The committee also approved a collective bargaining agreement with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 519 (Resolution 20-5-1367).
Chief Schott described the lateral-transfer language as a cleanup to fix contradictory wording around step placement and longevity, saying lateral transfers "are awarded a step d," and clarifying that longevity must be earned while working for the city. On the vacation conversion MOU, Schott explained the goal is an equalized conversion so time is treated fairly when employees move between shifts, light-duty assignments or different divisions.
All labor-related resolutions were approved; most passed unanimously. Council members thanked staff and union representatives for reaching agreements on technical points.
