Commission receives committee reports on roads, schools, health and airport plans including new EMS station site

He said the highway department had used 67% of its budget and had eight vacancies; the committee’s next meeting is March 30.
School board liaison Commissioner Walker reported the board met Feb. 24 and highlighted student achievements, including Carson Carroll of Rossview High receiving a perfect ACT score; Walker also noted appointments to the Tennessee State Board of Education and a national superintendent certificate for Dr. Luna Verdi. Walker reported an increase (29.2%) in personal electronic device infractions between the 2024–25 and 2025–26 school years, concentrated in high schools.
Health council Commissioner Simmons said the council met on Feb. 17 and will meet again the next month; a significant initiative is countywide walkability and sidewalks, and she invited public participation in future meetings.
Airport liaison Commissioner Galat reviewed the Feb. 11 airport operating report (20,035 operations) and fiscal numbers for fuel sales in FY2025. Galat said a proposed new EMS station should be next to the fire station on Tiny Town pending FAA land-release and that a long-term use agreement is in progress; he mentioned a potential equipment grant of $112,932.03 tied to a fuel farm relocation.
