Cusseta–Chattahoochee commissioners review broadband rollout, road grants and cemetery work at June work session

County staff and commissioners reviewed several infrastructure and public‑works updates during the June 24, 2024 monthly work session.
County Manager Thomas Weaver said Charter/Spectrum, working with Bingham Construction, plans a fiber build through the county that is expected to reach roughly 90% of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County; initial service is projected by mid‑December. The work will route through Fort Moore, then Highway 26, Industrial Park Road and Broad Street before branching out, Weaver said.
Weaver also reported that the county received an initial LMIG payment of $155,000 and that the supplemental application submission brings total LMIG funding to about $355,000. The sewer‑grant application has been completed and accepted, and Public Works reported the cemetery work is nearing completion with hydroseeding remaining.
Public Works Director Lou Beck said the county is resolving residential curbside collection eligibility after a brief contractor transition and confirmed the county received assistance from Fort Moore for large events such as the recent rabies clinic.
Commissioners asked that solid‑waste bids (three vendors) be placed on the July regular meeting agenda for an award decision; bids discussed included GFL at $20/month plus $5 per tire, Jones Sanitation at $23.50/month, and Zero Waste at $25.52/month.
The work session also included a resident request to use county property beside the library for an ADA‑compliant garden and storytime area; commissioners agreed to add the item to a future agenda if a formal vote is needed.
