Recreation director Mordie Askew said playoff status would be known the next day and announced a breast‑cancer awareness walk on Oct. 30. Samantha Hedgecoke in Community Development outlined holiday programming — a tree lighting, 'Christmas on the Square' and a parade — and said public hearing dates are being set for conditional use permit applications for properties at 105 Mustang Drive and 454 Old Louvale Road, with a proposed hearing on Nov. 25 at 9 a.m.
Public works reported equipment repairs and road work completed across several locations, including a repaired motor grader, cross‑drain replacement, shoulder repairs at 137/Pifer and work at Riverbend Park. The county said it completed a slab for a new radio building and distributed radios to the public works crew. The county also reported a rabies clinic that vaccinated and microchipped more than 100 animals and noted the 'reading garden' project was completed using library construction funds at no cost to the county.
County Manager Thomas Weaver said the Paychex payroll system is live and that a fiber installation has required some follow‑up repairs where contractors hit water lines. On HB 581 (the FLOST discussion), Weaver described the proposal to local leaders as creating three 'buckets' (education, transportation and a 'freeze' bucket tied to taxable value) that jurisdictions would opt into; he said the measure would require local opt‑in and a referendum and that the 'freeze' would operate at 2024 taxable value. "The F stood for 'Freeze,'" Weaver said during the session.
Staff discussed multiple items to put on regular meeting agendas, such as adding Old City Hall building use by the Board of Education, potential vehicle procurement for EMA, a second reading and candidate names for the Board of Elections, the engineer‑of‑record designation, cemetery bylaws and reappointments to the Industrial Development Authority.
