Work session: Cusseta–Chattahoochee staff, commissioners discuss cemetery bylaws, road repairs and planning-board changes

The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County held a work session on Jan. 27 focused on planning, roads and administrative housekeeping.
Robert Sumner, who said he lives on Lafayette Road and conducts training at the nearby NSA compound, offered to organize charity events and volunteer services for the county. Department heads reported operational updates: recreation and referee recruitment, permit and code-enforcement activity, water-well repairs and heater replacements, increased reports of stray dogs, and public-works staffing promotions.
County Manager Thomas Weaver presented items proposed for the Feb. 4 regular meeting and for a follow-up work session. Weaver asked the commission to schedule cemetery bylaws for the next work session and to invite the Planning & Zoning Board to a Feb. 24 evening meeting to review the conditional-use permit (CUP) process and identify wording changes. The manager recommended using 2024 LMIG funds to repair Friendship Road (with Liberty Hill Road nearby) and asked the commission to add a SPLOST bank-account item and several Planning & Zoning reappointments to the Feb. 4 agenda.
Weaver also discussed HB581, saying the county should remain opted in and that a special election on the sales-tax question will likely be required in November; staff will prepare informational materials for residents. The work session entered executive session for legal, personnel and real-estate matters and reconvened; the session adjourned at 10:58 a.m.
Next steps noted in the work session include an evening Planning & Zoning–board meeting on Feb. 24 to review the CUP process and staff follow-up on LMIG allocations and SPLOST-account setup.
