Cusseta–Chattahoochee Commission appoints three to Elections Board, adopts 2025 calendars and employee holidays

The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Board of Commissioners voted on a set of administrative items at its Dec. 3 meeting, approving three appointments to the Board of Elections and adopting the 2025 meeting calendar and employee holiday schedule.
The commission approved the appointment of Nancy Hoard to the Board of Elections for a term beginning Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2028 (motion by Commissioner Biddle, seconded by Commissioner Douglas; vote unanimous). It also approved Valerie Lassiter (term Jan. 1, 2025–Dec. 31, 2026) and Crystal Walker (term Jan. 1, 2025–Dec. 31, 2028); Commissioner Biddle recused himself from the vote on Walker’s appointment and the remainder of the board voted to approve her appointment.
On the meeting calendar, Commissioner Biddle’s motion to set 9 a.m. work sessions won approval after a tie vote: Commissioner Frost voted against the motion, and Chairman Charles Coffey cast the tiebreaking vote in favor. The board also unanimously approved the 2025 employee holiday calendar.
The commission tabled proposed cemetery bylaws until a future work session and asked staff and attorney Bin Minter to meet with the cemetery committee. A request to place a sheriff vehicle purchase on the agenda was deferred so commissioners could review a vehicle inventory and staffing levels at a subsequent work session.
County Manager Thomas Weaver and County Attorney Bin Minter briefed the board on administrative items. Weaver summarized recent guidance on HB 581, saying the statute changes property‑tax procedures and that counties are effectively opted in unless they take formal steps to opt out; he and staff attended a seminar on the law. Attorney Minter told commissioners he has joined a new firm and said his hourly rate will increase to $325 beginning Jan. 1; the minutes record the rate change and an engagement letter but do not record a final commission vote on an attorney‑rate contract that night.
The board entered executive session for legal matters at 7:43 p.m. and reconvened at 8:08 p.m.; the board stated that matters discussed were within statutory exceptions to the open meetings law and no votes were taken in closed session.
