Commission approves multiple bids and project awards for roads, docks, buildings and animal shelter

At its Oct. 7, 2025 meeting the Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County approved a slate of capital projects and contract awards aimed at road resurfacing, municipal building work and recreational infrastructure.
The commission voted unanimously to put paving for Riverbend Road and Liberty Hill Road out to bid. The Riverbend Fishing Dock project’s only bid from Wahoo Dock was accepted by the board. The storage building project for 215 McNaughton St. was authorized, with the concrete slab contract awarded to Chattahoochee Concrete and the building contract to North Carolina Carports. The City Hall Welcome Center low bid was awarded to Chattahoochee Concrete to refurbish a third of the building that had not been part of the original remodel.
The commission also approved adding kennel runs to the Cusseta Dog Pound: concrete work to Rock Solid Construction, fencing to United Fencing, and the building to McGuire Buildings. Commissioners declared two county buildings surplus — one on King Street and the old fire station on Fire Tower Road — with a stated intention to preserve the existing slab at the old fire station for possible future use.
Motions were typically made by Commissioner Timothy Biddle and seconded by Commissioner Jason Frost in the minutes; the votes recorded for these items were unanimous. County staff noted that some projects will require re‑bidding to secure grant funding and that matching funds (for at least one RVRC opportunity) would be 20 percent of project costs. The minutes also record a $106,000 cost estimate and a Dec. 1 start date for resurfacing Friendship Road as part of the county’s road program.
Work session notes from Oct. 27 indicate that the fishing dock construction also awaits U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approval before dredging and building can begin.
