The Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Commission voted to reduce the Planning & Zoning Board from seven to five members at its Aug. 5 meeting, approving a short‑term resolution to effect the change as vacancies occur.
Commissioner Jason Frost moved to reduce the board; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded. Commissioners Timothy Biddle and Damon Hoyte voted in opposition; Chairman Charles Coffey cast the deciding vote in favor. County Attorney Bin Minter told the commission that the long‑term solution would be to amend the zoning ordinance, while the short‑term approach recorded in the minutes would accomplish the change now and be formalized as members’ terms expire.
An audience member, Latrese Brown, told the commission she had applied to serve on the Planning & Zoning Board and expressed willingness to serve. Commissioners said they would keep applications on file and that terms on the board are four years.
The commission recorded the resolution and directed staff to proceed with the short‑term change while staff explores ordinance amendments with counsel.
