Brent Schmidt and other representatives from Sevier Valley Hospital updated the Sevier County Commission on the hospital's 2025 Charity Plan and its community benefit activities.
"Their goal is to help people live the healthiest lives possible," Brent Schmidt told the commissioners as he outlined differences between non-profit and for-profit hospitals and described the charitable mission of the hospital.
Schmidt said the hospital will become a receiving hospital for mental-health services, a change hospital officials said will greatly benefit the area by providing a local facility for patients requiring that level of care. Commissioners thanked the hospital representatives for the update and expressed appreciation for the partnership between the county and the hospital.
The presentation was informational; no formal action was required on the Charity Plan at the meeting.
