Sevier County approves MOU with R6 to continue Senior Nutrition Program amid slight state funding drop

Doug Kirkham and Sharon Bullard of the R6 Regional Council and Senior Center Supervisor Raydeen Bretz met with the commission to report on the Senior Nutrition Program transferred from R6 to Sevier County about a year ago. They said the transition has gone well and that the number of meals prepared has increased.
Kirkham said there has been a slight decrease in state funding for the program and that R6 and the county are seeking other revenue sources to replace the reduction; the minutes do not specify the dollar amount of the decrease. Kirkham asked the county to consider the funding decrease when preparing the 2026 budget.
Commissioners discussed the county’s transportation program, noting the buses are county-owned and insured and were put in place for seniors. The commission debated whether participation by the Richfield Care Center — described in the minutes as a for-profit organization — should continue to be included in the transportation program or be limited to seniors only.
After discussion Commissioner Ralph Brown moved to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between R6 Regional Council and Sevier County for the Senior Center Nutrition Program; Commissioner Greg Jensen seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
