Sevier County approves annexation of Canyon View Estates into Austin Special Service District

Sevier County Commissioners voted unanimously June 9 to annex portions of the Canyon View Estates into the Austin Special Service District, a move county officials said will provide improved culinary water service and introduce fire hydrants to the area.

Commissioner Scott Johnson opened the public hearing at 2:03 p.m. Jones & DeMille Engineering representative Parker Vercimak described petitions from residents seeking annexation to address water-service limitations. Shannon Heaps, speaking for the district, said the annexation "would improve the strength of the district, as well as improve the service to those individuals," and noted the district plans to install hydrants where none exist now.

The commission received no public objections during the hearing. After hearing the presentations, Commissioner Ralph Brown moved to approve the annexation; Commissioner Greg Jensen seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.

The action transfers the listed properties into the service area of the Austin Special Service District, which the county said will allow the district to extend culinary water lines and hydrants to the annexed parcels. The hearing record includes engineering input from Jones & DeMille and a district endorsement; no further public opposition was recorded.

The commission resumed its regular session at 2:07 p.m. and the annexation was entered into the minutes as approved. The county did not specify a construction schedule or funding breakdown for the district improvements during the hearing.
