Long County Board reorganizes leadership, appoints county attorney and sets meeting schedule
Summary
At its Jan. 7 meeting the Long County Board appointed James Craft as chairman (4–1), Gerald Blocker as vice chairman (unanimous), named James Smith county attorney, approved meeting dates for 2025 and took routine administrative votes.
The Long County Board of Commissioners approved several leadership and administrative items on Jan. 7, 2025.
Commissioner Jeremy Hall moved to appoint James Craft as chairman; the motion, seconded by Commissioner Gerald Blocker, passed 4–1 with Commissioner Robert Parker voting no. Commissioner John Reddish then moved to appoint Commissioner Gerald Blocker as vice chairman; Chairman Craft seconded that motion and it passed unanimously.
The board also appointed James Smith as County Attorney by unanimous vote, approved the board meeting dates and times for 2025, authorized payment of bills, and approved the December 2024 minutes. Several of these procedural motions passed unanimously.
Separately, the board added the appointment of a vice chairman to the agenda by unanimous motion before completing the reorganization votes.
Ending: The board completed its reorganization and routine administrative business before moving on to land‑use matters and an executive session.
