Commissioners approve several grants and agreements, including $75,000 RBEG loan with one abstention

The Cameron County Commissioners approved a package of grants, agreements and contracts during their Aug. 8 meeting.
Motions carried for the Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP) Participant Grant Agreement and for an Introduction to Distribution Management Plan required for FEMA’s Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) compliance. The board also approved a CWIS Data Sharing Agreement to facilitate information exchange with the County Children & Youth Agency through an approved case management system.
For economic development, the commissioners approved a CC USDA RBEG (Rural Business Enterprise Grant) revolving loan of $75,000 to Caldwell Corporation. Commissioner Zucal moved the loan; Commissioner Herzing seconded. The motion passed with Commissioner James Moate recorded as abstaining because of a personal or familial interest.
The board approved a letter of engagement with Maher Duessel for 2022 and 2023 audit services related to the county 911 program and ratified a prior verbal approval to subscribe to the "IamResponding" incident-alert platform for Emergency Services. Commissioners also approved and executed a Juvenile Probation Services Program Grant Agreement. Where motions were recorded as passing, the clerk’s minutes state they carried by a voice vote; only the RBEG loan recorded an abstention.
The decisions were procedural approvals that authorize staff to finalize agreements and move forward with the respective programs and procurement steps.
