Cameron County chief clerk says recount underway, EMA coordinator interviews pending

Chief Clerk Annette Campbell reported that an election recount is in process and that staff began sorting batches of ballots on Nov. 20. “We started yesterday, November 20, to sort our batches of ballots that need to be recounted. Friday morning, we start the recount by hand at 9:00 a.m.,” Campbell said.
Campbell also said the county is reviewing applicants for the EMA coordinator position and is scheduling interviews. No timeline for a hiring decision was provided.
The recount and staffing update came during the clerk’s report at the Nov. 21 Cameron County Commissioners meeting. The clerk’s update did not include a projected finish date for the recount or further procedural details about auditing or chain-of-custody processes.
The meeting adjourned at 10:18 a.m.
