Parish Hill manufacturing class partners with Eastern Workforce Investment Board; Electric Boat training will offer OSHA-10 certificate

Teacher Prentice Tracy presented the manufacturing class and its partnership with the Eastern Workforce Investment Board to the board on Feb. 17. Tracy described hands-on coursework—reading blueprints, operating common manufacturing machinery and completing school projects such as modifying a snow plow and repairing heating and cooling ductwork.
Tracy said students who participate in the training will receive an OSHA-10 certificate after completing a six-hour training provided by Electric Boat at Grasso, and those students will receive $750 upon completion. The program is designed to prepare students for entry-level manufacturing jobs by building technical skills employers seek.
The board heard the presentation as part of its teacher reports and acknowledged the work as an example of career and technical education that connects classroom learning with regional workforce opportunities.
