Board hears heating system update; member questions vendor costs and service contract

Board member Clark Stearns reported on recent work with BG Mechanical regarding boiler issues and maintenance. Stearns said Boiler #2 has been unreliable while Boiler #1 remains serviceable and that the system can run on a single boiler through the end of the heating season. He raised concern about an $800 shipping charge quoted for a replacement motor and pump and said he located the same model in Connecticut for $520.
Stearns also identified other maintenance concerns, including hot-water control components freezing and a failing large backflow valve, and suggested the Board consider other HVAC providers and to review the service contract to avoid repeated emergency calls. The Board noted a Drip Grant that will be used to offset this year’s heating costs and planned facilities repairs such as alarm system and roof work in the coming cycle.
No formal procurement decision was made at the March 3 meeting; trustees directed staff to gather additional vendor information and review contract terms.
