The Danbury City Board of Awards on Feb. 25 approved emergency remediation work to repair significant water damage in the City Hall technology department and authorized using Balfour Restoration under the city’s cooperative purchasing agreement.
Purchasing agent Chuck Volpe told the board the damage was discovered on Feb. 17 after a holiday weekend; public buildings contacted Balfour Restoration, which submitted a proposal under the OMNIA cooperative. Volpe said the initial authorization was for up to $3,000 but that the damage proved more extensive and that staff recommended a larger, capped award for remediation.
A member moved to award the restoration work to Balfour Restoration with a not-to-exceed cap of $75,000; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously. Board members and staff said they would coordinate funding and contract language with counsel and the finance director.
The board’s action authorizes the immediate work to protect city facilities; final contract execution remains contingent on completing paperwork and any required purchase orders.
