Danbury City board awards $106,955 contract to Hemlock Construction for Memorial Drive drainage work

At a Wednesday meeting of the Danbury City Board of Awards on Oct. 29, 2025, members voted to award Hemlock Construction a $106,955.79 contract to perform drainage improvements on Memorial Drive, with the award contingent on contract execution, Chip Hopi, Danbury City’s purchasing agent, said.

The engineering department submitted a requisition recommending Hemlock Construction for the project. Hopi told the board the contractor’s estimate reflects current heavy-equipment rental rates and related trade labor and that the price includes the State of Connecticut’s prevailing-wage requirements and the cost of a required bond.

“Award is subject to contract execution,” Hopi said when introducing the item. A committee member who moved the award noted the payment will come from the city’s public-safety improvements bond and described the work as phase 1 of a two-phase effort to mitigate drainage problems in the area; the mover said phase 2 is anticipated in the spring.

The motion to award, made by the committee member and seconded by Hopi, passed unanimously. The transcript records votes in favor by members identified as Johnny Bruce and Dave Petrovich; the chair announced, “Motion carries unanimously.”

The board’s action approves the contract award but does not finalize payment or allow work to begin until the city and Hemlock Construction complete contract execution and any required bonding. The board adjourned immediately after the vote.
