State bridge work closes Route 317; town to try road‑condition analytics

The Route 317/Hesseky River bridge replacement is under way and will close the road while the state establishes detours, Town of Woodbury officials said at the Jan. 13 meeting.
"Traffic will be diverted over Bear Hill Road between 6:30 and 5 PM Mon through Friday," First Selectman Paul Zulpa said, and he added that the contractor has arranged police support from Woodbury and surrounding departments to manage traffic.
Zulpa also briefed the board on a potential trial of Vialytics, a company that mounts a camera on a truck to film roads and deliver analytics on pavement condition, markings, catch basins and signs. He said Public Works and the Fiscal Office will run a trial period and report back to the board with an assessment of whether the software provides operational value.
The town also expects a visit from the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments on Jan. 23 to present its offerings and a draft Route 6 corridor slide deck intended for a public information meeting; Zulpa said he will follow up at his NVCOG meeting to learn the study’s next steps.
Residents are being directed to the town website and social media for detour and construction updates. No formal decisions about town funding or mitigation were made at the meeting.
