Woodbury to pursue $160,000 grant to study Three Rivers Park water flow

Town leaders told the Board of Selectmen on Jan. 13 that Woodbury has a pending grant to study water flow in Three Rivers Park and will act promptly to secure the award.
First Selectman Paul Zulpa said the Pomperaug River Coalition met with town officials and that the grant is “approximately $160K and it's a 50/50 match.” He said the town’s required 50 percent match could include in‑kind contributions such as volunteer time or staff salaries.
Zulpa said the town moved $30,000 from the 2023–24 capital budget into Capital Reserve to help meet the match and that the Board of Finance is being consulted to ensure the town can cover its share in the 2026–27 budget if necessary. He said grant acceptance paperwork must be signed by Feb. 5 and that the item will be placed on the next Selectmen agenda for formal action.
Carol Haskins of the Pomperaug River Coalition and Graham Musson of Parks and Recreation participated in preliminary discussions and are reviewing the grant stipulations to ensure the town agrees with the award conditions.
No formal acceptance was completed at the Jan. 13 meeting; the board scheduled the grant acceptance as an agenda item for an upcoming meeting so members can review final terms and funding commitments.
