Scotland selectmen approve routine business, appoint representative to Eastern Regional Tourism District

At its Nov. 25 special meeting, the Scotland Board of Selectmen approved routine business items, appointed a tourism representative and reviewed several local operational issues.
The board voted to approve the Oct. 27, 2025 meeting minutes (motion by Selectman Michael Gurnack; seconded by Dana Barrow Jr.) and accepted Treasurer David Zito’s report. The board approved a tax refund of $10.66 for Lisa Wasel on a motion by Gurnack, seconded by John Aldrich. Members also approved the Board of Selectmen meeting dates for 2026.
Jill St. Clair volunteered to serve as Scotland’s representative on the Eastern Regional Tourism District; Selectman Gurnack moved to appoint her, Aldrich seconded and the motion carried.
In the Selectmen’s report the First Selectman said rising costs will require adding money to the transfer station budget for equipment repairs and highlighted that public works was preparing trucks and sand for winter plowing. The board reported it had met with the Connecticut Department of Transportation on bridge financing and expects to fund two bridges next year, two the following year and a final bridge in 2028.
Other notices recorded in the minutes: FOI training is scheduled for December; the Community Center maintenance grant bid process closed the same day and award decisions will follow DECD approval; the Grange Hall farmers’ market is closed for the season; the Fire Department is planning a Breakfast with Santa event on Dec. 14; and landfill stickers are available at $25 per household from the Town Clerk during posted hours.
Board members also noted a proposed cell tower on Bass Road near the Scotland town line and asked residents to submit any opposition comments to the Siting Council. The minutes record that the Siting Council is expected to render a decision on a solar project by Jan. 21.
A motion to adjourn at 7:32 p.m. was made by Selectman Michael Gurnack, seconded by Selectman John Aldrich, and carried.
