Adair County, with Guthrie County, reclassifies and vacates parts of 350th Street

Adair County supervisors approved two joint resolutions with Guthrie County on March 3 to change the official status of portions of 350th Street, moving one segment to a reduced-maintenance classification and vacating another segment.
The actions followed separate joint public hearings held via teleconference. Supervisor Baier moved to open the first hearing on reducing the level of maintenance to Area Service “B” for a portion of 350th Street; Supervisor Hoadley seconded. No members of the public from either county spoke during the hearing, and the board closed the hearing before voting to adopt Resolution No. 2026-21. The resolution designates the described portion of the road as Area Service “B,” authorizing restricted access and a minimal level of maintenance pursuant to Iowa Code Section 309.57. Roll call was recorded as: Walker, aye; Hoadley, aye; Baier, aye; Christoffersen, aye; Wedemeyer, absent.
Shortly afterward the board opened a second joint public hearing to consider vacating a separate portion of 350th Street. Again, no comments were received. Supervisor Christoffersen moved and Baier seconded the resolution to vacate the described section; the supervisors approved Resolution No. 2026-22 ordering the subject section of road vacated and closed in Adair County. The vacated segment is described in county road records with measured distances in the resolution text.
County Engineer Nick Kauffman had earlier briefed the board on local road and bridge activity, noting ongoing work on other county roads and bridges and that the county had offered mutual aid to Decatur County after their recent fire and equipment losses. The engineer’s report did not change the board’s votes on the 350th Street items.
Both resolutions were adopted at the board’s March 3 session and are recorded in the minutes with the supporting legal notices and roll-call vote. The board adjourned at 9:22 a.m.
