The Deming Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously Nov. 17 to approve an alternate subdivision request for property owned by Joaquin and Rosalva Barrera at 2201 Columbus Road SE.
Mary Corral, recording secretary and deputy clerk, told the commission that the property owners were not in attendance but had been notified of the hearing. David McSherry, the city’s public works director, clarified boundary lines shown on the maps and surveys presented to the commission and described access and utility conditions for the parcel. “There is a dirt road for access but it is not maintained by the City and there are not utilities on the road,” McSherry said, adding that extending sewer service to the parcel would be difficult.
Commissioner Alan Briley moved to approve the alternate subdivision request; Commissioner Estrella England seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Commissioners England, Fox, Christensen and Briley voting AYE, and the motion carried unanimously.
Commissioner Frank Christensen said the commission’s written order will take effect after it is executed and filed with both the municipal and county clerks and noted that the decision may be appealed under state law. “Pursuant to NMSA, 1978 39-3-1.1.C, any action of the Commission in approving, conditionally approving, or denying this application may be appealed by any aggrieved person, any member of the City Council, or by the City Administrator to the District Court within 30 calendar days from the date the order has been filed,” Christensen said.
The record shows staff told the commission there were no affected parties identified during notice. The commission adjourned at 5:13 p.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2025.
