Deming moves forward with Sam Baca Aquatic Center construction after council funding

The Deming Parks Commission was told on Nov. 12 that council funding and a purchase order have been secured for the Sam Baca Aquatic Center and that construction is expected to begin in mid-to-late December. Jeremy Gervais, a city parks staff member, said design documents are back and that the contractor has guaranteed an opening "by the season."
The update came during the commission's regular meeting; commissioners did not receive additional public comment on the project. Gervais said the city will move forward with construction once crews mobilize and permits are in place. No construction contract details, cost breakdowns or exact opening date were provided during the meeting.
The commission approved the July 9, 2025 minutes at the start of the meeting and heard the aquatic center report as part of its new-business briefing. The commission did not take a formal vote on the aquatic center during the session. The next Parks Commission meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14, 2026.
