Clay County board re-elects leadership, tables honorary road naming and approves routine items

At the start of the Dec. 4 meeting the Clay County Board of Commissioners moved the election of board leadership to the top of the agenda. Commissioner Scott Penland moved that Dr. Rob Peck remain chairman and that Randy Nichols remain vice-chairman; Commissioner Dwight Penland seconded and the motion passed unanimously (4-0). The published minutes list Dr. Rob Peck as absent earlier in the attendance roster; the board nonetheless approved the leadership motion by acclamation.
The board also handled several routine administrative items. Commissioners unanimously tabled a resolution to honorary-name a 3.1-mile section of Fires Creek Road for Edward L. Roach until the Jan. 8, 2026 meeting. A variance request was approved by motion of Commissioner Clay Logan. Commissioners Scott Penland and Dwight Penland moved and seconded renewal of the county's conflict-of-interest policy, which passed unanimously.
The board approved tax releases and extended the deadline for Business Personal Property listing forms from Jan. 31, 2026 to Feb. 28, 2026. The consent agenda was approved unanimously. Commissioner Clay Logan moved to adjourn at 8:05 p.m.; Commissioner Scott Penland seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
