Council elects Jimmy Powell as mayor pro tem, appoints planning commissioners and approves budget calendar and meeting schedule
Summary
At the Jan. meeting the council elected Jimmy Powell mayor pro tem, appointed Tanner Sluder and Kathy Davis to the planning commission, approved the 2026–27 budget calendar and adopted the 2026 meeting schedule, then moved into executive session.
The Westminster City Council made several procedural and personnel decisions during its first January meeting.
Mayor (speaker 1) nominated Jimmy Powell for mayor pro tem; the council took nominations and voted to re‑elect Powell to the post. The motion to amend the agenda earlier in the meeting allowed the council to take nominations that night.
Council also nominated and approved two appointments to the Westminster Planning Commission. Mayor nominated Tanner Sluder, a local business owner, to a term through 2029, and Kathy Davis, owner of Kids Corner, to a term through 2030. Both appointments were approved by voice vote.
On administrative items, council approved the 2026–2027 budget calendar and related planning meetings; staff will host facility site tours for council members as part of the budget process. The council also approved the city’s meeting schedule for 2026, which uses a second‑Tuesday cadence.
After routine business the council moved to a motion to enter executive session and adjourned the public portion of the meeting.
