The Committee member (S1) said such a loop would let visitors with two to three hours between ball games walk to downtown shops and restaurants. “If we had a trail that kinda linked the town to the Hall Street complex ... you get ice cream, hot dog ... you see the downtown when you walk through,” the member said.
Moderator (S3) updated the council on a separate, DOT-funded sidewalk project. The South Carolina Transportation Alternative Program is paying for new sidewalks on Mimosa from Maine back to Augusta and on Retreat Street from Main Street back to Augusta; DOT engineers were surveying and the project is underway, although the agency has not provided a public timeline.
Speakers also raised street lighting and sidewalk repair priorities, and staff said work orders can be issued if locations needing lighting are identified. The council agreed to continue evaluating trail routing and to monitor DOT work on the TAP sidewalks.
