The Weston City Commission adopted second‑reading amendments to the city’s comprehensive plan Jan. 20, approving evaluation and appraisal report (EAR) updates across future land use, housing, infrastructure, conservation, recreation, transportation and a new property‑rights element.
Staff said the ordinance responds to state review comments and contains no substantive changes from the first reading other than edits to exhibits. Vice Mayor Henry Meade and other commissioners questioned level‑of‑service language in the transportation element; the city’s traffic engineer explained FDOT‑defined roadway level‑of‑service categories (A best to F failing) and noted several arterials shown at a D level. Staff also described a nearby Sunrise hotel proposal whose traffic analysis indicated the intersection at 100th and Indian Trace could deteriorate from a D to an F—Weston requested conditional improvements from the Sunrise project to protect Weston intersections.
Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance at second reading. Staff emphasized the city will continue coordination with FDOT and neighboring jurisdictions on roadway capacity and developer mitigation measures.
The vote: unanimous approval.
