Weston commission adopts ordinances on swale-tree removal and EV charging variances

The City Commission of Weston unanimously adopted two ordinances on Dec. 8, 2025, during its final meeting of the year.

Agenda item 6 amended the city code to clarify applicability and exemptions related to removal of certain swale trees; city staff reported no changes since the first reading. “This is, not no changes between first and second reading,” city staff member Mister Decker told the commission, indicating the text remained substantively the same as the prior hearing.

Agenda item 7 amended sections of the code related to electric vehicle charging stations, creating an administrative variance process that allows battery-charging equipment to be located at an alternate location on a single‑family residence under certain conditions. Staff said the change formalizes an administrative pathway for these cases.

Both measures received motion and second (item 6 moved by Commissioner Melina McPhee and seconded by Commissioner Andrade; item 7 moved by Commissioner Melina McPhee and seconded by Commissioner Jaffe). The clerk called the roll for each item and the commission recorded unanimous yes votes by the seated commissioners and the mayor.
