North Haledon council moves: salary ordinance introduced, road contract awarded, former firehouse set for auction
Summary
At its Oct. 15 meeting the North Haledon Borough Council introduced a salary-amendment ordinance on first reading, approved a consent agenda that included an appointment of a Class II special police officer and an award of a roads contract, authorized an auctioneer for the former firehouse at 811 Belmont Ave., and approved payment of $3,229,399.84 in bills.
The Borough of North Haledon’s council met Oct. 15 and moved a series of administrative and capital items on a short agenda, introducing a salary-amendment ordinance on first reading and approving a consent agenda that bundled multiple appointments, contract actions and routine approvals.
Ordinance #13-2025, introduced on first reading, would amend 2025 salaries for several borough positions, listing maximum base salaries for the municipal clerk ($154,120.51), tax collector ($122,826.70) and deputy CFO ($117,042.88), among others; the ordinance was set for final passage Nov. 12, 2025. The municipal clerk and tax collector salary changes are noted as retroactive (one retroactive to Jan. 1, 2025; others retroactive to July 8, 2025 as noted in the ordinance text).
The council approved Consent Agenda CA#10-2025, which included 12 items. Among those: the appointment of Jeremy Guerriero as a Class II special police officer; acceptance of the resignation of part-time dispatcher Andrew Morzetta (effective Sept. 30, 2025); temporary full-time leaf collector appointments for Chris Visser (retroactive to Aug. 26, 2025) and Adem Hani (effective Oct. 20, 2025); approval of raffle licenses for NH PTO and Mary Help of Christians Academy; authorization to retain Max Spann Real Estate & Auction Co. to auction the former firehouse at 811 Belmont Avenue; a change fund of up to $100 for the Construction Office; and a change order for Linda Vista Avenue sidewalk improvements adding $26,395.90 to the contract (new total $495,810.90).
The council separately awarded the Squaw Brook Road improvements contract to New Prince Concrete, the low bidder at $210,229.20, pending receipt of a performance bond. The CFO certified that a DOT grant exists to fund up to $210,229.20 for that project.
The bills list was approved by resolution for $3,229,399.84.
Mayor Randy George read a proclamation declaring October 2025 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month: “I, Randy George, Mayor, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2025 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Borough of North Haledon,” the proclamation reads. Councilman Bruce O. Iacobelli noted that North Haledon Day was a success and reminded the council that Veterans Day is Nov. 11.
The meeting lasted roughly six minutes from call to order to adjournment; the minutes record no public comments and no extended debate on the listed items. Several items were approved unanimously on the consent agenda; Councilmembers Iacobelli and Parmese are recorded as abstaining on the award of contract for New Prince/Squaw Brook Road.
