Hackettstown board advances policy updates, approves HIB and emergency drill reports; holds executive session on confidential matters

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — The Hackettstown Board of Education on Sept. 10 advanced a package of policy second readings, approved the district’s August HIB report and a September emergency drill report, and moved into executive session to discuss confidential personnel and student issues.

The board approved second readings of several policies and regulations presented for a 2nd reading, including revisions to board member election and appointment policy, legal and professional services, internal controls, administrative employment contracts, statutory curricular requirements, a new student sun protection policy (P 5339.01), and a revised budget presentation policy and regulation.

The board approved the August HIB (Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying) report and accepted the September emergency drill report as submitted by staff.

During general public comment, Warren County Community College student Charlie Tufano introduced herself and noted she is participating in observations with the district. In new business, board members asked for updates on the status of the Patrick School and on the Peace NJ Project; the minutes show those items were inquiries only and no formal action on them was recorded in open session.

At 7:59 p.m. the board convened an executive session to discuss matters requiring confidentiality, specifically HIB appeal matters, anticipated or pending litigation regarding student accommodation issues, and personnel matters involving co-curricular staffing. The board stated it would not take public action following executive session and that executive-session minutes would not be disclosed until confidentiality no longer exists.

What happens next: Policy revisions approved on second reading will move forward per district rules; the executive-session matters remain confidential and the board recorded that no public action would follow that private meeting.
