Brooksville council approves annexation first reading and adopts comp-plan text amendment

Brooksville City Council on Nov. 17 conducted a public hearing and approved two land-use items: the first reading of Ordinance 1007 (voluntary annexation of about 1.3 acres) and final adoption of Ordinance 996, a text amendment to the city’s comprehensive plan.
For Ordinance 1007, staff said the annexation parcel (property appraiser key 149645) is located east of South Main Street, roughly 660 feet south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and will follow the standard three-step process: annexation, a minor comprehensive-plan amendment, and rezoning. The item had been advertised per statutory requirements; no members of the public spoke during the hearing. The council approved first reading and the clerk confirmed a second reading scheduled for Dec. 1.
On Ordinance 996, staff explained the amendment adjusts transitional lot sizes and densities used when property is annexed into the city. Council members noted a typographical error in the draft (page two showed a 60-foot minimum) and moved to approve with the corrected minimum lot width of 65 feet. The ordinance passed the final reading 5–0.
Both items had been advertised as required; staff said the comp-plan amendment will be posted to the Department of Commerce website following mayoral signature.
