Staff explained the proposed ordinance to dissolve the board followed several resignations and a letter from board members expressing frustration about communication and direction. Nicholas Fanzone, a current board member, urged the council to rethink the board’s scope—expanding its goals to include a longer-term sustainability or beautification action plan rather than eliminating the group.
Council members debated whether the board lacked direction versus whether council had failed to communicate expectations. Several members suggested postponing immediate dissolution, recruiting new members, and returning with clear goals and a timeline. Council ultimately moved to deny Ordinance 2026-13 (the proposed dissolution) and instructed the board to return with an action plan, with options to revisit the matter at the April/May agenda cycle.
Council also discussed outreach to fill vacancies; staff confirmed recruitment could proceed while the council evaluates the board’s scope. The denial preserves the board for now and requires it to present recommendations for refreshed duties and recruitment by the council’s requested follow-up date.
