The Economic Development Authority of Mankato on Jan. 26 approved a $550,000 Public Housing Capital Fund budget for 2026, a staff presentation and unanimous roll-call vote showed. Ms. Fockelman told commissioners the funding is authorized through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is intended for modernization, general repairs, appliance replacement and site improvements.
The resolution follows a required public hearing on the capital fund; no members of the public spoke. Staff said the capital fund program had been posted for public comment and a resident advisory meeting produced tenant appreciation for the improvements identified in the plan.
Commissioner Laughlin moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner Metler seconded. The clerk conducted a roll call and recorded unanimous yes votes. The resolution was approved and will be implemented according to the plan presented, subject to HUD rules and any subsequent administrative steps.
The action funds maintenance and modernization work in existing public housing stock and is part of the EDA’s annual capital planning process. The authority did not specify a timeline for individual projects during the meeting; staff directed that the program be posted as required and proceeded with the vote.
