Staff reported that multiple notices had been issued, follow-up site visits completed, and a city attorney notice sent regarding conditions that violate city ordinances. “We’re here tonight to ask the council to authorize staff to abate the conditions of the property,” staff member Starnes told the council.
Starnes said the city follows a standard process: if the council authorizes abatement, staff will seek a court order, abate the property as allowed by court direction and monitor the site for a period after abatement to reduce the chance of recurrence. Council moved, seconded and passed the resolution on a roll-call vote.
The authorization directs staff to proceed to obtain any necessary court orders and to carry out abatement consistent with past practice; staff will monitor the property after abatement and report back to council if further action is required.
