Kathy Foster and Darren Blanchard used the public-comment portion of the Coweta City Council's Nov. 3 meeting to urge the council to carefully weigh potential harms tied to a proposed data center and an industrial project called Project Atlas.
Foster told council members she was concerned about noise, air emissions, increased demand for water and electricity, the potential for declining home values and higher utility rates if the data center is built. She asked whether the project would receive tax breaks and what steps would be taken to protect nature and wildlife.
Blanchard raised related concerns about property rights and easements, the industrialization of rural areas and national-security implications. He said there is an online petition opposing the project with about 700 signatures.
The meeting minutes record these remarks as public comment and do not show any council vote or formal response to either speaker on those issues during the session. No staff report, permit application, or council action on the data center or Project Atlas appears in the meeting record for Nov. 3.
