The board approved the finance committee’s recommendation of a tiered bonus structure — $300 for employees on staff as of August, $240 for September hires, $180 for October hires, $120 for November hires and $60 for December hires — and directed $75,000 to Little Cats for furnishings and supplies and $48,095 to contracted services for the early learning center remodel. "We saw an increase of $51,155 from last year's outcomes dollars to this year," Dr. Stevens said, identifying the additional state TEASA outcomes funding that made the payments possible.
The finance committee presented three cost scenarios and recommended the $300 top-tier option. "The finance committee recommends a $300 bonus to eligible employees on staff as of August," Mr. Jordan said during the presentation, providing the committee's preferred plan and cost estimates. The committee estimated the maximum cost of the $300 scenario at $212,475; staff said the final amount will be adjusted when payroll records are finalized and that roughly $123,094 could remain available for other needs depending on the final payout.
Board members asked whether the bonus applied only to teachers; the Chair responded that "this is everybody," and staff confirmed the bonus will cover full- and part-time employees across instructional and noninstructional lines (Little Cats, nutrition, technology, maintenance and grounds).
If approved tonight, staff said payroll would work quickly to include the payment on the Dec. 24 payroll. The motion to approve the bonuses and the two allocations was moved by Theresa Lawson and seconded (recorded as Rosie Graham); the Chair called a voice vote and the motion carried (voice vote; no numeric tally recorded in the transcript).
Board members agreed staff will return with an amended budget and more definitive breakout numbers at the Jan. 20 board meeting. The decision is a one-time allocation of TEASA outcomes funds and does not change the district’s baseline operating budget.
The board also approved a motion to adjourn later in the meeting and scheduled the next regular board meeting for Jan. 20.
