The La Crosse Board of Park Commissioners on Jan. 15 unanimously approved a request to allow alcohol at the La Crosse County Democratic Party’s summer social at Black River Beach Neighborhood Center, contingent on required permits and compliance through the clerk’s office.
Fred Giese, an executive board member of the La Crosse County Democratic Party, spoke in favor of the request and described the event as a modest summer social. “We’re an organization of about 400 members,” he said, adding the group typically draws “50 people, maybe 75” and that organizers will provide canned beer and soda but will not sell alcohol. Giese said the group has held the event in area parks for many years.
Commissioner Young moved to approve the request; Commissioner Wilson seconded. The motion carried unanimously. The chair and staff emphasized that the approval is subject to all required city and county permits, including review by the clerk’s office.
The approval lets the applicant move forward with permitting steps; staff will confirm final compliance with liquor and special-event rules before the event may proceed.
