Scotland recreational committee approves minutes and outlines summer events, road race set for Aug. 9

Marie Beck, Chair, called the Scotland Recreational Committee to order at 7:08 p.m. on July 8 and the panel unanimously approved the minutes from its June 10 meeting after a motion by Katie LeClair and a second from Monica Lindsay.

The bulk of the meeting focused on planning for 2025 community events. Committee members reviewed the town's recent yoga offerings, noting three series since February: Feb. 19–Apr. 3 (10 classes) with a program cost of $600 and participation receipts totaling $670 plus a $10 donation; May 7–Jun. 4 (five classes) cost $300 with $160 in participation receipts; and Jun. 12–26 (three sessions, one cancellation) cost $180 with $120 in participation receipts. The committee agreed to a July 3–24 series billed as four classes while using one cancellation credit from a prior series to cover payment for three sessions.

Members confirmed the summer band lineup and fundraising steps: a June 28 performance by Slide Hustle (noted as low turnout but positively reviewed), July 26 by Goodbye Irene, and Aug. 16 by Cast in Blue. A September slot for the Blackburns is listed as pending confirmation; the committee requested checks for booked bands.

Other calendar items included postponing the Spring Clean Up Day to the fall and finalizing details for the Aug. 9 road race. The race is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. on a one-mile out-and-back course running approximately from the school to the bridge and back; participants may run multiple laps within the two-hour window. The minutes record 113 registrants to date with two additional potential registrants and a possible total reaching 169. The committee set a preparatory meeting for July 22 to work on race logistics.

There were no budget items or open-discussion topics raised at the meeting. The committee set its next meeting for Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Scotland Grange. The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
