Scotland special education director reports high ESY attendance and above-average special education identification rate

Dawn Davis reported that the district’s ESY program had strong participation, with daily attendance around 90–95% and positive exit surveys from staff, parents and students. She said staff caseloads currently cover 21 students and that directors from other districts in the region have expressed interest in forming a small collaborative group involving roughly six towns to coordinate services.
Davis told the board that 25.6% of students in Scotland are identified with special education needs, which she contrasted with the state identification rate of 17.8% cited in the report.
