The La Crosse Board of Park Commissioners recorded a series of unanimous votes during its Feb. 19 meeting.
The board approved the prior meeting’s minutes (motion by Commissioner Kirsch, second by Commissioner Littlejohn; recorded vote 8–0). The board also approved the 2027–2031 capital improvement budget (motion by Commissioner Olsen, second by Council Member Weston) after corrections to funding-source labels.
On special events and fundraisers, the board approved a Central Conservation (doing business as Nature Place/Wisconsin Conservation Corps) fundraiser to collect parking fees at Myrick Park June 5–6, with fees matched to UWL’s parking structure ($10 per vehicle; $20 for oversized vehicles). Members also unanimously approved the Maple Leaf Run/Walk at Riverside Park (Sept. 26, 2026) and the 30 for Freedom event at Chad Erickson Park in April 2026 after staff noted and promised to correct a date typo in the permit.
The board passed a resolution authorizing the department to apply for a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program (RTP) construction grant (the grant is an 80/20 match and staff said the department has already surpassed the 20% match). The board also approved acceptance of a Wisconsin DNR award of $42,600 toward the Veterans Freedom Park fishing pier.
