Selectmen outline bridge timelines, town-hall renovation and road-safety steps; Greenskies solar project remains under discussion

The Scotland Board of Selectmen received several infrastructure updates at the May 28 meeting and discussed related next steps.
First Selectman Dana Barrow said the Bass Road Bridge (North) construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026 and finish by November 2026; Brook Road work is scheduled for July 2026. The Town Hall renovation has progressed through a line-of-sight and drainage study and drawings are now out for cost estimates, Barrow said. The board is also interviewing candidates for a new Public Works employee to support road and bridge work.
On road safety, Barrow reported that the town posted new lower speed-limit signs on Route 14 through the center of town and installed "This is your speed" radar signs; a speed study is underway to assess whether the town should pursue a speed camera. The board noted permit encroachments for radar signs on Route 14 and Route 97 are in place until November 2025.
Separately, the board updated residents about the proposed Greenskies solar project. Officials said Greenskies is working with neighbors to address concerns; the company declined to negotiate a tax-stabilization agreement at this time, opting to wait for the outcome of a potential state-level bill that was discussed during the meeting. Town staff also reminded residents that landfill stickers cost $25 per household and are available at the Town Clerk's office during posted hours.
No formal votes on bridge contracts, renovation bids, road cameras or solar agreements were taken; the meeting provided scheduling and procedural updates to guide future actions.
