Scotland Board approves $41,000 in budget transfers to cover unplanned repairs and services

The Scotland Board of Education voted unanimously June 3 to approve approximately $41,000 in intra-budget transfers to cover unexpected repairs, maintenance, purchased services and noninstructional supplies.
Finance staff told the board the transfers were needed to address costs that arose during the fiscal year. Brittany Santiago moved the motion; Lisa LaBelle seconded, and the measure carried without opposition. At the same meeting the board approved the June financial report, which showed 84 percent of the fiscal-year budget had been spent to date.
Superintendent Valerie Bruneau and the finance director told members the transfers were intended to keep routine operations funded through the end of the fiscal year; no additional long-term budget changes were proposed. The board did not record any dissenting votes or recorded abstentions.
The board also handled routine business including approval of the May 6 meeting minutes, confirmation of the August meeting date and adjournment at 7:08 p.m.
The approved transfers and the financial report were entered in the official minutes; implementation of any follow-up budget monitoring will occur as part of regular fiscal oversight by the district.
