Deming council approves routine business: consent agenda, job description, inventory and proclamation

The Deming City Council completed several routine actions at its Aug. 19 meeting, approving minutes and consent items, ratifying the city's fiscal-year inventory, adopting a personnel job description, and issuing a proclamation declaring September as Attendance Awareness Month.
The consent agenda was approved after Mayor Pro Tem Stephen Westenhofer moved to adopt it and Councilor Joe "Butter" Milo seconded; the roll call vote was unanimous among councilors present. Council also approved a revised job description for a Customer Service/Meter Reader and Repairman II (Range 19) after City Manager Aaron Sera explained the change added supervisory duties and adjusted the pay range. Finance Director Liliana Pena presented the FY2025 physical inventory and noted items valued over $5,000 were accounted for and obsolete items listed for disposal; the council ratified the inventory by roll-call vote.
Mayor Michele C. Shillito read a proclamation declaring September Attendance Awareness Month; Councilor Irma Rodriguez moved for approval and Councilor Julian Monjaras seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The council later entered a closed session under NMSA 1978, 10-15-1(H)(8) to discuss purchase or disposal of real property or water rights; upon returning to open session the mayor certified that only agenda items were discussed and that no formal motions were made in closed session.
No ordinances or resolutions requiring publication were introduced at this meeting. Several presentations and public comments accompanied the agenda, including arts and Little League presentations and multiple residents raising utility, park, animal control and event concerns during the public input period.
