Deming council adopts FY26 budget and approves FY25 final reports and adjustments; fire truck added and $3 million gas‑meter project included

Pena said the FY25 final quarter report reflects actual fiscal figures for 2025 and, as required, staff attached a resolution to authorize submission to the New Mexico Finance and Administration Department. Councilor Irmaisela A. Rodriguez moved and Councilor Julian Monjaras seconded the motion to approve the FY25 final quarter report; the council voted unanimously.
Pena then presented final FY25 budget adjustments. She said most changes were internal line‑item moves within funds and that two additions were reported as pass‑through grant items: a law enforcement retention fund and a fire recruitment grant. Council unanimously approved the adjustments after Mayor Pro Tem Westenhofer moved and Councilor Rodriguez seconded.
On the FY26 final budget, Pena noted changes since May that included adding the fire truck purchase, creating a separate fund for the Rio Mimbres golf course (moving previously budgeted recreation funds into that fund), adding $10,000 for Corre Caminos on‑demand hours (collaboration with Luna County), and allocating $3,000,000 for a gas meter replacement project. Councilor Rodriguez moved to adopt the FY26 final budget; Councilor Monjaras seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Council members praised staff for detailed tracking and reporting; no public comment was recorded on these items.
